Main Actors

Komal who plays as Emma :

Age: 18

I decided to choose Komal because she is strong minded individual who does not have an innocent or shy look to her. This makes her perfect to play Emma as Emma’s personality is that she is the twisted evil one that lies and fools the audience throughout the trailer and film.

Komal also has the good look for my poster as she studied Drama in GCSE which is a aid for me as she would be less camera shy giving my poster and magazine the best possible impact on viewers available.

Aneeqa who plays as Katie:

Age: 19

I decided to choose Aneeqa to play Katie because of her personality of being too innocent. Aneeqa has the shy innocent look to her plus she is quiet which makes her that much more perfect to play a role of a character who lives under Emma’s shadow for comfort. Katie is murdered in the Film by her friend Emma.

Gagan who plays as Josh:

Age:19

I decided to choose Gagan to play as Josh as Josh is not mentioned alot in the trailer and mainly shows bits of him. Gagan has a good height and look for someone who is after justice as Gagan as an indivdual is very arguementative and always fights for his rights. By hearing this I felt he would be good for Josh as the characters personality and Gagan’s is quite similar.

All the main characters are also the perfect age group for my film as the film is aimed towards young adults and teenagers.

Storyline

Emma and Katie have been friends since a very young age. Fifteen years on and they are still going strong. Katie was forever living in Emma’s shadow, but had never once became jealous or angry, she was simply happy to be, and have, a good friend. Emma, always seen as the better of the two inseparable friends, secretly envied Katie’s good heart and sunny disposition. The reasons for this are unknown, in social situation Emma was always the star, always thought of as the better looking of pair, had the more successful career and the richer family.

Jake was Katie’s troubled boyfriend which is revealed during the end of the film. Him and Katie’s had a history a few months back, still on good terms. However, Jake was mentally unstable and had taken to following her. She had noticed and told him to stop, he continued and they got into a loud confrontation at a friendly gathering. (Not a main part of the film)

One day Emma and Katie were on there way to a friends party where all of a sudden a car won’t start and she had to car pull over (all part of Emma’s plan).  Emma fools Katie by making her wait in the woods alone while she goes to get petrol, Katie is stranded on her own. Bout 15 Minutes Later Katie gets attacked by ‘someone’. Katie was left alone whilst Emma went to get more petrol. Once Emma was gone for a while Katie saw a figure walking towards her in the car mirror. The dark and mysterious figure had a shovel.

Emma returned to the car with the gas to find Katie gone, and her keys on the floor. Naturally she was worried about her friend and called her, Katie did not pick up. Emma then called anyone that might have picked her up and her work to try and find her. Lastly when no one had any idea of Katie’s whereabouts Emma called the police. The police was so little help, Katie could not be registered as a missing person yet, and Emma had to continue with her day not knowing where her friend had disappeared too.

A week on Katie had not come home and had been reported missing. The police were looking and Emma was shocked. Emma became very suspicious of Jake, as the police had. He had a confrontation with Katie mere days before she vanished.

One day on her way home from work, Emma drove past the place where she last saw Katie and stopped. She sees flowers near a tree where they had parked and goes to read the card. She picks it up and it reads “I’m sorry for what I did. I loved you. Please forgive me.’

Emma is scared, clearly Katie’s murderer left this, maybe it was Jake, maybe he was going to get her too. She started to run back to her car but is taken by a masked man. Her friends and now maybe her murderer? She is knocked out and wakes up in a room, tied up and confused as well as scared.

He tells her he saw everything and demands justice. Emma reveals the truth and refuses to admit it, Emma manages to escape this place, Jake follows her. They have a chase scene and Emma manages to kill Jake making it look like suicide. Emma survives and does not get any justice and Jake and Katie both die.

Camera Shots/Angles Planning on using in our Trailer:

I researched on camera angles and shots before deciding which ones I should use for parts of my trailer. The images show what I used to increase my knowledge of varities of camera angles which were very helpful when filming my trailer.

The angles I decided to use for my trailer are:

The Camera Pan Shot,Over The shoulder Shot, Close Shot, Long Shot, High Angle Shot, Low Angle Shot

Every individual in our group (Gagan Me, Komal and Aneeqa) had a equal participation in making this film trailer. We all had a practice and real shot of us recording as well as editing as shown below.

Location Planning

Since the beginning we have always decided to locate the same scenes on a road which allows parking , least amount of road signs and trees and a forest on each side of the road. All participants in the group all live near each other which is Slough so we decided to locate our location in Slough so meeting up would be more easier and editing and film in the trailer. There was a variety of places we could have chosen for example:

A road near cippenham park. However streetlight and houses were most likely to be shown in some scenes.

Black Park which is a huge park that is full with trees and roads that look empty. This is a good place to have some scenes of our trailer as the mise en scene suits the genre.

Wexham Park which has good roads with forest around them which is what we want for our trailer, However there’s a lot of signs and props that are irrelevant i.e. the letterbox and road signs about farms.

A Road with a park and some trees with it located in Reading. I have shown a image using Google Map.

After a lot of consideration we decided to locate our trailer at Black park as it looks most dull and quiet and does look like a place where situations could occur. The other areas were either too public, or too busy to suit the trailer.

The library scene was done at our college as it was easy to find, and re shoot some scenes if needed too.

Props

Props were done on Josh and Katie during the trailer and not Emma. Emma is shown a lot during the trailer so we decided to have Emma change her clothes constantly to not make the trailer look too simple and also to show that the scenes were different days of the week and situations did not occur all at once.

Katie’s Props was that she always wore a woolen hate that covered a lot of her head. This makes Katie obvious yet unique in the trailer. By us doing this, it allows the audience to understand that it was her who gets hits with a spade. I have shown an image below to show this. This is later on in the trailer and she is shown in the earlier stages of the trailer with the same hat.

Josh’s Props was that he always wore black, in the magazine and in the trailer. This is too give away the least about him and to show a sense of danger as Burglars tend to wear black to be seen less, I used this to dress our characters as I want Josh to be hidden.

We kept clothing and props simple in case of parts of the trailer needed re shooting.

Before beginning our trailer we decided to make scripts for the parts of our trailers where it involves conversations and talking. This helped us as a group to understand what is going to be said and how they are going to say it to avoid as much mistakes as possible in the future. Furthermore it is more professional and shows that we took a interest in planning our trailer before filming it. Another reason why I decided to do this was also through research of scripts and storys made through words and images. The link shown gives you an understanding of what research I did.   http://annieinthedark.com/about

Script for Library scene:

Emma is in the library looking at books, Sees Teacher.

Emma: Miss!

Nada approaches: Oh Hi

Emma – How Did Katie do?

Nada – Yeah she did really well you should be proud.

Emma: How did i do?

Nada – (Pauses for a 2 seconds) Not good im afraid.

Emma: (Looks Away)

Nada: Dont worry come and see me at the end of the lesson we talk about it, You’ll be fine

Script for stairs scene:

Josh: Listen I needa speak to you

Emma: I dont want to talk to you

Josh: Wheres Katie? (Gets a bit agressive)

Emma: I dont know where she is!

Josh: Stop lieing to me you knwo exactly where she is (pushing her slightly against the wall)

Emma: Panicks I dont know where she is! (runs off)

Script for car scene:

Emma: (in the car) Oh My God we’ve run out of pertrol!

Emma: (Gets out the car in anger) Did you put petrol in the car?!

Katie: Sorry I forgot (innocently looking and scared)

Komal: Your so useless sometime I swear to God! (Open cars boot and pulls out petrol can, slams door)

Komal: I’ll go and get it myself! (Storms off)

Story Board

To help get a better understanding of how my trailer is going to look and what we expect from it, I decided to create an storyboard which is when you draw out your trailer explaining briefly what is happening in each section. The reason for this is to get an understanding of what parts we will need to concentrate on how long each part of the trailer is, what editing would need to be done and the camera angle we are going to use for each section for example picture 1 a long shot etc.

As I did not know how to create a storyboard before I decided to during class time research on internet stroyboards to understand a bit more about what they involve and layouts of them etc. I have shown a image to show what sort of help I gathered.

The two images above are example of storyboards that I found throught Google. By researching these gave me an insight of how storyboards look like and what relevant information is needed in them such as camera angles and what the image involves. I am going to add Duration of each picture scenes to give me an idea of how long I would have for all my trailer.

I have scanned my storyboard as shown below.

The storyboard shows the parts of the trailer which are relevant for the trailer including the duration of each bit and the edits that are going to be done for example the first block has editing done of ‘black and white’.

Sound and Voice Combination

The link above shows how I researched on ways to mix sound with voice. The video shows a man telling a story and at the same time playing the piano, to me this was effective as it shows how an combination of sound and voice can have a huge impact on the audience watching as a lot of viewers I viewed this too liked this video.

Youtube Trailer Analysis

  • Uses sudden changes in scenes.
  • Thunder (Sudden Sound Effects)
  • Limited amount of colour

  • Advertisements and website pages at the end of the trailer
  • Flashing lights

  • Sudden changes in scenes
  • Limited amount of colours used such as red
  • Texts displayed in the middle
  • Screams and shouts
  • Sudden sounds

  • Sudden changes in scenes
  • Screams and shouts
  • Brightness Low
  • Loud sudden bangs (noises)

  • Lighting changed
  • Sudden Sounds
  • Rapid Scene changes
  • Dark lighting
  • Non Digetic sounds
  • Texts in the middle

Effective techniques used?

Some techniques used were that all trailers tend to use sudden sound effects such as lighting or a thud sound. This helps to create tension as it automatically got my attention when I was watching the trailers.

Most trailers tend to use sudden sounds when the viewer least expects it. This is a clever tactic as it tells viewers that they must be prepared to get scared at any time rather than knowing what’s going to happen next.

The effective techniques used for me was definitely the lightings used for some parts of the trailers. For example in the trailer ‘Devil’, the actor lights his matchstick making viewers see a image of ‘someone’ standing behind him making it dramatic and realistic as if we was in that situation.

The editing to me was very effective as in some trailers for example when the colour is dulled down to create realism and unpleasantness. This for me makes the trailer seem less entertaining and more horrifying.

What was the less effective?

The less effective for me was when a narrator is explaining or talking about the trailer as it playing. I would prefer it without as it allows me concentrate on the trailer more to see whether I would want to watch the actual film. I would prefer a trailer to be all action.

How am I going to use these elements?

For my trailer, I will be using a lot of the ideas and tactics gained through watch these trailers such as the sudden changes of scenes. I know this would work through plenty of research as the ones it has been used in have been successful such as Paranormal Activity, the Last Exorcism etc. I will most likely do this through a film making software which I will teach myself how to use.

I’m also going to use the idea to lower the brightness of my clips as it allows viewers to see less therefore not have a good sight of what could occur next and everything that’s around.

The final idea I am going to use and put into my trailer is sounds. I like the idea of using sound effects at parts of the trailer where least expected. This is going to be a major part of my trailer as it creates a sudden shock and tension towards those watching as they should expect the unexpected. An example of sound effect may be a bang of a door closing or a gasp, thunder etc.

I researched a lot of different trailers

– How was using the camera?

Using the camera for the first time was not as hard as I expected. However finding the right and perfect camera angles and shots was the more difficult task. While recording the camera must be steady and placed at the right place to make the scene being shot as professional as possible. When using the caemera its best to be creative by using a variety of camera angles as possible to keep viewers entertained and to reduce how boring the trailer would be to watch.

-How did you decide who should do what?

With using the camera we decided to choose the one whos most confident and with a steady hand for shots that would be difficult to do with a tripod.  In our group we all did sections of the trailer and all had a go with the camera which we were all confident with as shown in the pictures.

-How was the tripod used? What are your thoughts on it?

The tripod was used on scenes where the camera required to be still. The tripod itself had its disadvantages and advantages such as for me I found it quite restrictive at times. This is because it hard to move physically in case there was a need to in a part of the trailer. However it had its advantages like it was very flexible as the camera can be moved freely yet keep a good posture. A tripod would be good for pan movement shots. Furthermore I would say that the tripod is very flexible as yu can move the tripod as well as the camera to meet the satisfaction of the scene and what you are recording. By me using the tripod gave my trailer a more professional look so I will definitely be using the tripod for parts of my trailer.

-What worked well and what did you have difficulties with?

The areas that worked well with our filming was how the video camera was very easy to use itself as well recording and cropping out the clips.  Other areas that worked well during filming was where we filmed and who filmed what. Everyone at the end of our filming practise knew how to use a tripod and how to set the video camera to suit scenes the best. We also had some difficulties such as placing the video camera onto the tripod and filming from awakwards positions such as between trees to get the best shot and angles to make our trailer look good.

I have learned quite a lot with iMovie such as how to view clips and join different clips together to make it more professional. An example would be when I cropped each individual clips to minus any unnecessary parts of the clips to make the trailer flow better. iMovie has helped me to understand the importance of timing between music and the videos for example in my clips, when she reaches down to pick up her card she dropped, (20 secs into the clip) a sudden sound occurs as legs behind are shown, this creates a lot of excitement and tension which attracts more audience. I have shown the part below.

I have also learnt how to add texts in between my clips as shown below to help narrate the story with giving limited knowledge about the film itself. This helped the trailer to build tension and the audiences attention which are key to a successful  trailer. I have asked someone for feedback for this part and got a response.

The picture above shows me having a text between my clips. This helped me a lot for viewers to understand what is happening or to get an understanding of what the film is going to be about.

Viewer 1: I thought the text in between Gagan’s clips were suitably placed and worked well over all, however they were slightly corny.

I took this into account and decided to reduce the amount of text I Had.

-What did you find easy/hard? What I found difficult through this whole process was the actual recording and camera shots itself. This was because i had to remain very still and make suggestions about what shots and angles to use way before actually making the clips. Therefore I had to do a lot of planning which to me was one of the difficult parts. I also found the brightness and darkness difficult in clips where it was low or too high for example when we were stood outside and inside. The lighting was different therefore had to be edited using IMovie to make the trailer look as realistic as possible.

However there was some parts which I found easy for example the actual editing of the clips such as cropping and timing the clips. This was simply because I do generally enjoy using the Imovie software. I also found adding texts into my trailer quite simple to do but did have a couple of issues with placing them in to match the trailer.

-How will I use this software to create your final trailer?

I am going to use this software to create my own trailer by its functions such as titles in between clips and how to make the best out of them i.e. use titles to narrate the story or help audiences to get a brief idea of what the film is going to be about. I am also going to be using this software for when I crop and edit clips to make them most effective as well delete parts of clips which may not be scary or useful enough.

I movie allows you to use special effects on the clips. This would be most useful as it would make my trailer look more interesting and hi tec. I used one of the special effects in my practice trailer which was ‘earthquake’ and got a very positive reaction from my teacher and other students in the class therefore made me decided to use this effect for when I make my actual trailer.

-Did I find the youtube tutorial useful/inspiring in showing you i Movie capabilities?

To help me understand the software better than I already do, I decided to look through some tutorials to help me.  They were very helpful for example I was not fully aware of how to import videos into IMovie’s and also how to record yourself from the IMovie camera. To help me i searched this up on the internet and found a video that helped me alot which I have shown you throught a link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXtuMp46pxc

Furthermore i decided to do some more research for future projects of my coursework such as Photoshop. From AS I did not have fully skilled potential on how to use photoshop so decided to do some extra research by watching videos from youtube about Photoshop as shown. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iwp2a9ex0SQ I have shown one of the many videos researched. The link told me how to crop image without hassle and messing up the image itself, it was quite useful and im glad I researched this.

-How important was editing to my success of this sequence?

Editing had a huge impact on the success of my trailer. Without editing the trailer would not look very professional and quite bland. My trailer s that have been done for practice has helped me understand that clips and parts of the video must match and flow. With editing this can be possible for example #fade in’ and ‘fade out’ helping the clips to be viewed more slowly and with a sense of professionalism.

Editing helps to bring interest and suspense to a trailer. All trailers that have been researched did use the same conventions which were all successful only through its editing. In conclusion to all my knowledge, I will be using a lot of editing in my actual trailer however not too much to make it perfect for a horror trailer.

-Did I use any of the research you did on the Horror Film Genre to inspire your editing choices of this practice sequence?

The research that was done on existing trailers did help me when making my practice trailer for example the sudden changes in clips was very successful in existing so was used in mine. Furthermore leaving trailers on a negative and interesting way also creates viewers interest and persuasion to watch the film. Therefore I also did this such as when i left the clip on her sad face or in my practice clip when I leave the trailer with the ‘bad person’ slowly following the victim in the end.

Before we began creating our trailer, I decided to make a ‘practice trailer’ to get an clear idea of what conventions and shots/camera angles i may want to use for my actual trailer. We created a short trailer in our college to practice and increase our skills in using the video camera and editing etc.  Mise en scene was used throughout our trailer as it helped to see the scenery and where the characters were. For example during the end of the clip the mise en scene was the roads and the exit of the college, this helped to show the audience that they are leaving the college showing a sense of safety from the stalker.

Narrative techniques were done through texts that were displayed as the clips went on and in between. This helped those watching what the story was about and was also done to help increase a slight interest about the actual film itself. I believe this was successfully done as my feedback was all positive as they all would have watched the film if it was real, the main aim of trailers.

I chose these scenes because I believe they helped to set the scene better. For example the scene where the ‘bad person’ or ‘stalker’ is shown looking from a very long shot distance, I chose that particular corridor because of its lenght. By locating there helped viewers realise he wasnt normal as he looked possesed. Furthermore at the beginning of the trailer i chose the scene of the victim girl entering the college to help express the story of where they are, and where the trailer is going to take place.

-What effects/transitions did you use and what impact do they have? What meaning do they create? I used a lot of effects in my practice trailer, such as when the man is standing in a long shot of the corridor, I used an effect to make the scene look blurry. This was done because I tried to make the man look ghostly and supernatural therefore think it went well as my teacher specifically preferred that scene to others. Other effects were also used such as ‘Earthquake’ which gave a shaky effect to the scene chosen. I did this right at the end because it went really well with the music and also to make the ‘mans’ face who is the stalker less visible. Surprisingly views and feedback was high as a lot of students said it was a perfect way of ending the trailer, in suspense.

Particular transitions were also used such as when I added the text into my trailer,  I used the style ‘Drift’ which had a pan style of showing the information. This did not distract the trailer too much or make the text still visible.

-What kind of pace does your sequence have and what did you do to create this?My trailer did have pace towards the end when they showed the man following the characters outside and also at the starting when she drops her card. This was done through me cropping the clips reduction of any unnecessary parts leaving only the important parts.  This aided the length of the trailer to be shorter making the trailer as a whole more quicker pace.

-How did you choose music/sound? How important was this to the finished product?

I chose music that would relate to the genre of the trailer which is horror. Therefore i decided to choose sound and music from a PlayStation computer game as shown. This helped to create suspense and a high amount of tension.  I also used a roar based bang when the girl reached to pick up her card and we saw the legs at the back. This is so audience feel scared. I also used more sound towards the end when the ‘stalkers image is shown getting closer and closer simply just to increase tension and interest in the trailer.

-What have you learned? What considerations will you make for your main task?

I have learned the importance of editing in trailers. One main consideration I will definitely make though out creating this practice clip would be using loud music of banging sounds to show sudden appearances such as the legs behind the barriers to get into college. I chose this with also the aid of Research of existing trailers such as Paranormal Activity and The Grudge etc.  All the successful trailers do this which is why I believe it would be great for mine.

I will also be making the most out of the IMovie effects and transitions that are available to us as I believe they are very effective when it comes to persuading viewers to watch the actual film.

As part of my research before producing my actual trailer, I decided to have a practice go by making a trailer out of a small film known as Down To The Cellar.

-What were your impressions of it?

My first impression over this short film was that its a unusual film. The video had no sense of direction of storyline but yet was catchy because it was so UN-ordinary. The camera effects and editing was done brilliantly giving this film an edge however I found it difficult to give this film a genre such as whether it was horror, comedy, action, adventure etc.

-Why do you think I chose this? What horror/thriller conventions did it have/use?

The film did have a lot of thriller and horror conventions which was the main reason to why I found the film fascinating. A perfect example would be the lighting as it was continuously very dark and low giving the convention of suspense and tense. This helped the film have a thriller based film even though it wasn’t. The main character was also a convention as she was innocent and had to go ‘down the cellar’ on her own with a fiction style look. This helps the audience give her sympathy as well see her innocence as she enter this dark cellar.

-How did you come to decide which scenes to use in the short teaser trailer?

There were particular scenes that were more attractive to use for my official trailer such as the parts of the film where pace is involved for example when she was running with her basket in her hand or when she looks through the wooden fence and walks back slowly. I preferred these parts as it helps to build tension i.e. what she was running away from? What was she looking at? etc.

Furthermore there was parts that I preferred more such as when her hand are shown opening the door, or her hands showing as she go up the stairs which to me is a good idea for a horror trailer.

-What music did you use to add to the effect?

There was two types of music I used. One was from a very popular film known as ‘Saw’. I used the theme tune for this because it had pace and tension and would so well with my trailer. The other mp3 type of music I used was from a game I like called ‘Project Zero 3’. The main genre of this game is horror and thriller therefore contained plenty of scary music which aided me a lot. The music i used had a sound of wind gushing and whistle sounds which I think sounded good when she was in the cellar.

-Did you use any special effects?

I used some special effects for example a part showing the ‘man in the cellar rinsing his mouth out with a liquid’. I darkened the scene to create confusion to what he was doing as it was less visible. This helped to make the film look more professional and relate more to my genre, horror.

The first ever scene I also used special effects to help the scene look better and more old.

I also used special effects at the end too when her face is being shown. I concentrated on her face at the end as she was looking sad making people feel sorry for her just as the trailer ends. I used an special effect to pace into her face fast to create more interest.

-How has this exercise been useful in shaping your ideas about your own horror/thriller trailer?

This exercise has helped me a lot for when creating my own trailer. I now feel more confident about what types of scene we should include, what seems to be most efficient and effective towards the audience i.e. pace scenes. I also now know how to crop scenes more efficiently and match the music (soundtracks) to make this trailer look professional.

By doing this practice trailer , I now understand the importance of using the right sounds for this trailer as it helps alot to make the trailer more scary and overall good.  Using the wrong types of sounds can really effect the trailer making it less succesful to satisy the audience and viewers.

Below I have done a Textual Analysis on ‘The Trailer ‘Down To the Cellar’

The lighting and camera movements had a huge effect on the impact of this short movie. Beginning with lighting, the director used lighting all throughout the movie. The main point of this movie was to show a dark and dull place. As she entered the ‘Cellar’, the only light seen by the audience was the torch light. This created tension as the idea of not being allowed to see the whole place helps create confusion to what lies ahead of the movie. This helps back up what type of genre the movie is as we would assume its Horror. The lighting was not very bright which helped to suspense the audience more.

Lighting was also used at the beginning of the movie. The lighting was done to make brightness low. This was done to help make the movie look old and back in the day’s idea. This helped audience to realize that this movie was made to match society of now but more of 30 – 40 years ago. The film was based on the old times of Russia where poverty was high, when people had a limited amount of finance and home security. The film was successful in showing this as it made me feel as a viewer of how difficult it must have been living in those hard conditions. The director did this through Mise en scene and characters and how they appear. For example the middle aged couple down in the cellar were not dressed as next top models but more the opposite. They had dirty clothes on, torn from certain places with no sort of attractive personality. This told me that they were most likely poor.  The scenery was also very dull and boring and cheap which also gave me the similar conclusion of poverty being low.

The Mise en scene was barely visible as we could only see what the characters see. (Through the torch).  The torch effect used was excellent simply because we could only see what the character could see. This made me feel as I’m there with her which has a huge impact on films and their excitement.  The Mise en scene was a huge part to this movie.

The movie was called ‘Down To the Cellar’ and the innocent looking girl entered the cellar. This created sympathy for the girl as we know the Cellar is the main feature of this movie and we don’t know what’s down there making the audience feel like we are there with her experiencing going down there for the first time too. The director backed this up by using various camera movements and angle for example in the cellar, when she is walking down the corridor as she first enters the cellar a ‘over the shoulder’ angle is used. This made me feel like I was walking behind her which helps to make viewers feel the tension she must have been feeling at that time. Another way the director used tactics to make us feel we are ‘there’ is when the girl is looking through the hole in the wall, all the audience see is what she sees. This helps   to make the audience feel quite suspicious about what is going on too.

The main character was the girl in the movie. How she was presented did relate to fiction movies such as Cinderella as Cinderella was always forced to work. This can relate to the girl from the movie as she went down the cellar to get Potatoes for a reason not explained. The little girl can also relate to little Miss Riding Hood hence the red skirt and shoes with also the two pony tails. In this fiction, little miss riding hood was lost in the forest. This can relate to the girl form the film as the audience got the impression she was lost too. In both novels and this film, the girl was of innocence which easily made the audience sympathetic over her.

There was a limited of characters in this short film. The actors/characters in the film came across dirty as they didn’t wear clean clothes or live in a clean place. This gave us the impression that they are trapped in this cellar for example the cell looking bedroom.  This shows that the cellar isn’t really a pleasant place to live. Furthermore the Mise en scene as in the scenery was displayed to show the exact same thing i.e. the kitchen, the metal poles surrounding most of the room etc.

Another valid point is that the characters in the film never spoke. This in my opinion built up suspicion to whom and what they actually were.  Extreme close up shots were taken of the characters faces however no expression was ever shown. This leaves the audience confused as to what the point of them being in the cellar was.

A very powerful camera shots were used during this movie where a silhouette of the girl is shown as she is going deeper into the cellar. The reason I liked this one is because as she went deeper in, her silhouette got smaller. For me this helped to show isolation and a ‘no going back’ sort of reaction. The cellar also was darker as she carried on walking in.

The movie used a lot of camera angles and shots are very close up on the girls face as noises and unidentified sounds were being heard. This helped the audience to see the characters emotions and facial expressions as she was scared and in shock. They did this so viewers would concentrate more on her facial expressions rather than her body language. Also by doing this would reduce how much of the scene the audience can see which tends to create excitement and suspense as in to what’s around her and where she is.

Sound is also a very important element in this movie. If we analyze the movie, not a lot of sound is actually used to but quite a bit of digetic sound and non digetic sounds i.e. the meowing of the cat and the sound of her footsteps. The sound of her footsteps was edited to sound louder than they actually should to create tension and pace.

I have taken some screen shots to show my performance and improvements as I proceeded with editing my trailer.

I added text into my trailer to create story and interest for viewers. I have shown this below.

The images  are showing how I added text which was done through the editing option which I than clicked on title and chose the one of my choice. I chose ‘drift’ quite a lot in my trailer as it move across the screen while viewers are reading. This is good as it shows constant movement and pace even though just words are being displayed.
